The rather good looking match with "Jacobus Senior, Pieter's son" in Folio W-71 of the Tulbagh slave register
Slave Owner
In the Slave Register of Tulbagh, Ledger W(et), one finds two people who could be his son, "Pieter, Jacobus' son" (Folio 5)[8], and "Johannes Marthinus, Jacobus' son" (Folio 63)[9], as well as a "Jacobus Senior, Pieter's son" (Folio 37)[10]. In addition, in Folio 71[11], we find a likely grandson, "Jacobus Francois, Pieter's son"[12].
If this Jacobus lived to see 1817, like his wife, he may be the match to "Jacobus Senior, Pieter's son". In that case, he registered one slave on 23 Jan 1817, a 70 year old 'Cook Maid', Silvie from Malabar, ~60 years old, est. birth 23 Jan 1757.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacobus by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacobus:
Please check my suggested match with "Jacobus Senior, Pieter's son" from the Tulbagh slave register, Ledger W, Folio 37. Of course this can only be correct if Jacobus was still alive in 1817, to in his retirement with his wife, own a slave from the far east, Malabar, to be his cook.
The match of two other Folio's from the Slave Register with two of his sons seems to fit rather well. It is confused by the large number of de Wet people in the enormous Tulbagh district, and another Jacobus Senior (married to Catharina Margaretha Hugo), with a large number of slave-owning children.
I'm losing my way in all the references given here. What is the evidence for the given year of death, and how strong is it?
